Allergies? Try Neti Pot

Try Neti Pot

For folks suffering from allergies especially during the Spring, I'm pretty sure you must've observed that most or all of the allergy medications you buy either over-the-counter or prescription ones will stop working after a certain time. I know how despairing and frustrating it can be!

Why don't you give the Neti Pot a try? It's a very simple and very quick procedure to do. It will take less than 2 minutes to do this ritual as and when needed based on your allergy/sinus symptoms.

Below are what you need to do this ritual: (NOTE: Make sure you don't overdo this, i.e., more than once a day OR do it in the wrong way OR with tainted water).

- A Neti Poti (preferably Ceramic like in the below picture).

- Fill up the pot with 1/2 cup of BOILED or DISTILLED water that's lukewarm-warm (I can't stress the importance and quality of water in a neti-pot enough! ).

- Add a pinch of salt (anywhere from 1/4th teaspoon to 1/2 teaspoon), preferably Sea Salt and mix well per 1/2 cup of water.

- Follow the picture below (you need to place the trunk in 1 nostril while bending your head slightly down and forward. Note: (Picture shows a closed mouth but..)Make sure you keep your mouth slightly open during the entire time it takes to complete this. Once you are done with 1 nostril, repeat the same with the remaining half water in the other nostril).

- Once you are done with the neti pot, make sure to take a small drop of olive/almond/sesame/coconut oil on your little finger and rub gently in each nostril (around 1/2 - 1 inch inside) to help maintain the moisture in the nasal passages (that might have dried out due to the nasal salt water application).

- If you still aren't clear, I'm sure there are pretty decent YouTube videos on this!
