Social Media - A blessing or a curse?

Social Media

This has been the single most important question since the past decade. Some say it's a blessing, some say it's a curse and some have mixed feelings. According to some it's a blessing because it rebuilds relationships by reuniting people, it acts as a catchy platform for any social causes/reforms, it gives opportunity to flaunt one's lifestyle or simply life, it can make anyone a celebrity overnight etc., While some say it causes depression/mental illness in people, it encourages bullying indirectly, it could promote hatred, it could make people more focused on only materialistic goals/needs/wants in life etc.,

I used to be in the "mixed" category with mixed feelings towards social media. Just before I changed my mind and moved towards the "curse" category. I've thought it over, tried to balance the pros and cons and finally the cons stood out more louder than the pros (at least to me). Yes, of course it might rekindle some relations and might promote social causes, but if you ever try to go in-depth of the aftermath of post rekindling/rebuilding, or how many social reforms for the right causes were done, there's a possibility that to might tend to agree towards my thought process.

Just think about it - for how many of you maintaining these social media accounts and their activities has become a second job? Don't we already have enough stressors in life that we need another full-time job just to flaunt our life or get some attention or have the pseudo ego of being a messiah by promoting a social cause and/or helping someone?

Most often we blame our emotional and physical health issues only on our work, our family, your food, routine, but we often forget that one of the major stressors comes from having to maintain the social media activity (in case we are heavily using social media). Also, if we do some genuine introspection into this topic, we find that it's very easy for most of us to belittle people who are addicts, but we don't realize that all the folks glued to social media are also addicts - it's the most noticeable form of addiction! Just think about it once!

Another dangerous trend that's already started is - Virtual Reality! (besides regular gaming). Why VR? Because we don't know or don't want to know the beauty of the actual reality and the world we live in, instead our minds find comfort in something that doesn't exist. We not only find comfort in fakeness but we also make billionaires more richer! Look at the chain reaction we are causing - our addictions are leading to huge unbelievable economical disparities resulting in more hatred, more frustrations and subsequently more heinous crimes! :(

A statement to mull over - Humans are species that ignore the beauty of reality, what's right in front of them and enjoy what doesn't exist!
